Smith-Cotton High School Homecoming weekend 2016 at Tiger Stadium in the Jennie Jaynes Activities Complex
Smith-Cotton High School will celebrate Homecoming weekend September 16 and 17, 2016. The Sedalia School District Foundation invites all alumni celebrating a class reunion to participate in the annual Homecoming Parade through downtown Sedalia and attend the Tailgate Party and football game on Friday at the new Jennie Jaynes Complex. The “old” Smith-Cotton High School, now Smith-Cotton Junior High, is open on Saturday morning for tours and a pancake and sausage breakfast.
Dr. Diane (Cordry) Golden is the 2016 recipient of the Sedalia School District Foundation Distinguished Alumni Award. The Sedalia School District Foundation Distinguished Alumni Award ceremony will take place on Friday, September 16, 10:30 a.m. in the Heckart Center for the Performing Arts at Smith-Cotton High School, 2010 Tiger Pride Blvd, Sedalia, Missouri. The public is invited to attend.
For over 30 years, Dr. Golden has been a leader, advocate, and policy writer in the field of special education. She was described by one of her nominators as “a truly unique individual and consummate special educator. She is a dynamic and holistic thinker whose contributions to the field of special education have been both significant and far-reaching. Her combination of bright intelligence, comprehensive knowledge, and force of character has resulted in many changes in Missouri and national policies and practices in the field of special education.”
The daughter of Sedalia School District educators, Ken and Charlotte Cordry, Dr. Golden is a graduate and the valedictorian of Smith-Cotton High School class of 1974. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia, a Master of Science in Audiology from the University of Central Missouri, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Special Education Administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
This small card has led to BIG results for the Foundation and Sedalia School District #200. Major Saver cards sales have raised $375,000 for the Foundation and Sedalia School District since 2001. Proceeds from the sale of Major Saver cards support the participating schools and fund the Foundation Mini Grants. In 2016 participating restaurants/establishments include: Bryant Motors, Jiffy Lube, Fitter’s 5th Street Pub, Goodcent’s, Burger King, Mighty Melt, Perkin’s, Casey’s, Goody’s Steakburgers, Leisure Park, Freddy’s, Country Kitchen, Papa Murphy’s, Hardee’s, Papa Jake’s Donut Shop, Sonic, Subway, DQ, & Mazzio’s.
The 2016 Major Saver card is available online at www.majorsaver.com. All cards purchased online will be mailed directly to the customer. In addition to the Sedalia area card, cards from other areas may also be purchased online and the Sedalia School District will receive the credit. Major Saver cards can also be purchased through the Major Saver App available on Google play or the iTunes store. Once the free app is downloaded to an Android or iOS device, buyers can choose through the app to purchase a physical Major Saver card that will be mailed to them or purchase a digital card. Once the buyer completes the transaction for the digital card the offers will be stored in the Major Saver App. Buyers can then redeem offers directly from the app and do not need a physical card.
